Field Experience 2nd and 3rd week

So in the second week I had the same group and got to know the students a little more and their work ethic. One student would hurry up and get the task done so he could read his book another would just be disruptive so he could get out of class. There were a group of girls in each class period that would hang around and cause a little trouble and try to get away with it. I learned really quickly that they would look at me to help them get out of the trouble they were in.
The third week I didn't meet in my group and I helped some students read. So I asked them to pick up a book that they could read easily and one that was a little more challenging. To my surprise I did not know that these students just came from Somali and this is their first year of English. So when they were reading kindergarten first grade level books it was very difficult.

Field Experience First Day

On my first day at Talahi Elementary there was definitely an unfamiliarity with the students. I felt like I was disruptive to the teacher because the students just wanted to know who the new person was. I was in the language arts section with 6th graders. It was definitely a different experience. I got warnings from other student volunteers that they would be rowdy and disrespectful, so I felt like I was starting to get an image in my head of how the day was going to go.
I don't like assuming things especially in a classroom setting, so I just ignored what the others said and listened more to what the students were saying. I noticed that in the classroom there was little respect for authority and I don't know if it has to do with the different teacher helpers there were in that class or if it had to do with the attitude in their day. Every time a student were to be disruptive they had to "take a break" which meant that they would sit in a chair an re cooperate. This technique seemed to work for most students. If they were very disruptfull they would go on a walk with either myself or a teacher helper.
You could figure out very quickly who would get distracted easily and disrupt the rest of the class. So about an hour into it I did the first group lesson. I had a group of four that became five after some persuading. The group went really well and it was not that hard to pick up on some of the behaviors that the students had that you needed to work with.

Bullied

The movie bullied was very inspirational for me. The fact that Jamie Nabozny stood up for himself the whole time while being ridiculed was astonishing. I really did not understand why the principals in both schools did not do anything and then lied in the courtroom. When talking about being a mandated reporter I feel like a few teachers actually said something and the others just didn't care or feel like it was important.
What Jaimie did was so inspiring to so many people and changed the way the district was rRemove Formatting from selectionun. If more teachers could be like Jaimie the students would know right from wrong and learn to be good citizens, in not only their school but their country. By doing this people would have more understanding and if we as teachers educate our students on different orientation and the terms we use.

Atomic Learning

Atomic Learning is very new to me but I think it will be very influential for my teaching. The program shows you all the different technigues that can be critical in your teaching. I love how if you are not sure on something you can watch a tutorial on it instead of looking through a hand book.
Watching a visual on how to do something for me is key in my learning. Using the Atomic Learner I can acheive more things on an advanced level.
